What is tapless or tapfree Step choreography?????

Definition (simply put):  The leg lifted is the next to move

Question: Is it bad to tap?

Answer: No. It is a personal choice.

However, you may want to ask yourself if your participants are following especially those who are unfamiliar with your routine or teaching style? Always keep an eye on that new person that walked into your class (being respectful of your level), to see if he or she is following. If not, consider your cueing and secondly reflect on choreography construction.

The best sign that you will probably get as to whether you should switch to tapfree choreography is when you are cueing a move and part of your class is on the right leg and the other is on the left. The lead leg should be clear whether you do tapless or not!

Ø      Also consider this:

Tapless is in general:

o       More Fluid

o       Easier to follow

o       Contains a Higher cardio

o       More fun

o       Easier to teach

o       Easier to learn

In order to change tap choreography to tapless, consider my 2 major rules:

1)      Some moves change the lead leg automatically ex. Knees up, leg extension etc and repeaters. Other moves such as the Basic, V Step and mambo are moves that do not change lead leg

2)    Investigate the moves you are using and see if there are non-tap alternatives. Some examples include:

Ø      Turn Step= shuffle

Ø      Over the top= weave, revolving door
